Store Manager

Kathy Bachman

An Illinois native, I grew up in the Chicago suburbs but moved to Bloomington and graduated from BHS. I attended U of I in Champaign-Urbana graduating with a Horticulture major.

Agriculture and gardening have always been part of my life. My grandparents and uncles have farming careers and my childhood summers were spent in a rural community. I believe in keeping it local by supporting local business when possible the  flower farmers, growers , and wholesale suppliers need our support. Agriculture in the USA is very important.

I have been a floral designer for many years and have seen the industry change and progress, with some previous fashions returning to popularity and becoming new again. I enjoy learning and keeping up with the latest floral products, design techniques and styles, what is  new and better  in the flower industry. Your floral gift order is very personal to me.  I treat your order as if it’s for my own family member.  The arrangement/ gift is “my baby”, a creative extension of self and it’s important down to the last detail.

In my free time I enjoy learning what’s new;  Pinterest, all types of arts and crafts, music,  gardening, reading, community college classes and participating at the Moose family center. My husband, 2 children and 3 grandsons keep me busy. All this helps my creative process so when asked to make that special something for your special someone I have some resources ready.

Senior Designer

Opal Virtue

I have been a florist since 1999.  I was looking for a job where I could use more of my creative skills.  I answered an ad for a floral designer and within a week, I embarked on my new career.  I earned my certification as an Illinois Certified Florist and enjoy continuing my floral education at state shows and design classes where I have won 1st and 2nd placements in several contests.  The most exciting part of the floral industry for me is that no two days are the same and creativity is only limited by your own imagination.

In my spare time, I volunteer at the Community Players Theatre.  I normally work back stage in many capacities, but every once in a while you can see me on stage.  My favorite pastime is hanging with my grandchildren.
